Noland, Kenneth (1924-2010) © VAGA at ARS, NY, Ross, Gloria F. Ross (1923-1998)
Line of Spirit. 1993. A Gloria F. Ross Tapestry (American, 1923-1998); Designed by Kenneth Noland (American, 1924-2010); Woven by Sadie Curtis (American, born 1930)
United States, Arizona, Kinlichee.      Noland’s use of large areas of unshaded color lent itself to the style of Navajo weavers because the looms they used produced flat, even surfaces heightened by blocks of pure color. Sadie Curtis, who had already produced several other Noland designs, was chosen to weave Line of Spirit. Wool, single interlocking tapestry weave, 157.2 Ă— 151.8 cm (61 7/8 Ă— 59 3/4 in.). Inscriptions: (In upper left): S.C. (label on reverse): No.1 Edition of 1 size: 62 x 60 Title: Line of Spirit (signed): Gloria F. Ross and Kenneth Noland. Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Shorey, Jr. (1995.156).
