Zix, Benjamin (1772-1811)
Kassel Museum, recto. Annotation in pen: Kassel museum. As early as 1805, Dominique Vivant Denon proposed to the Emperor to publish a collection of prints illustrating his military campaigns. He called on several artists including Benjamin Zix, Constant Bourgeois de Castelet, Hippolyte Lecomte and Nicolas Antoine Taunay. They were responsible for accurately drawing battlefields and locations of a significant event. Denon continued to collect the iconography of the work by sending Benjamin Zix to Spain, from October 1808 to February 1809, then to Italy in 1811.  Black pencil drawing. inv no.
