Zix, Benjamin (1772-1811)
Removal of the sculptures from the Kassel museum, with Dominique-Vivant Denon in the center, 1806. This drawing is part of a set illustrating episodes and sites from the campaigns in Germany and Poland in 1806 and 1807, and the interview between Napoleon and the Tsar Alexander I on the Niemen. As early as 1805, Dominique Vivant Denon proposed to the Emperor to publish a collection of prints illustrating his military campaigns. He called on several artists including Benjamin Zix, Constant Bourgeois de Castelet, Hippolyte Lecomte and Nicolas Antoine Taunay. They were responsible for accurately drawing battlefields and landmarks. Watercolor. 18.5 x 29.5 cm. inv no. RFMLAG2019-33-7-recto. Photo: Mathieu Rabeau
