Martyrdom of St Mamas, detail, tapestry, 1545, after a cartoon by Jean Cousin, depicting the saint being burned in an oven, with 4 angels and 2 cherubim in heaven, and 4 executioners stoking the blaze, encouraged by the emperor, in the south transept of the Cathedrale Saint-Mammes de Langres, or Langres Cathedral, built 1150-96 in Romanesque and Gothic styles, in Langres, Haute-Marne, France. The tapestry was commissioned by Claude de Longwy, bishop of Langres 1529-61, and made in Paris by Pierre Blace and Jacques Langlois. The tapestry and the cathedral are listed as historic monuments.
