The "Bundesgrenzschutz" (Federal Frontier Guards), a police unit of 10.000 established in 1951, is West Germany's first military unit after World War II.
Lt. Col. Attenberger, a former police officer, watches shooting practice at Camp Coburg shooting range. Rifles used by the Frontier Guards are old German rifles seized by the French in 1945 and bought back by German police. Pistols are Spanish, bought after the War.
