St Mark's Basilica, or Basilica San Marco, on the the Piazza San Marco or St Mark's Square, Venice, Veneto, Italy. On the left is the Torre dell Otologio clock tower. The basilica was consecrated 1084-1117 and was originally the chapel of the Doge, becoming the city's cathedral in 1807. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
