Griffin facing the throne, fresco, in the Throne Room, Creto-Mycenaean period, used by king Minos and his priests as a council hall or law court, at the Minoan palace of Knossos, in the Karaitos valley near Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Knossos was the capital of the Minoan civilisation, built on an older Neolithic settlement.
