Wooden carved angel on the 17th century choir stalls in the Abbaye de Pontigny, or Pontigny Abbey, a Cistercian abbey founded 1114, in Pontigny, Burgundy, France. The monastery was dissolved in 1791 during the French Revolution and only the abbey church survived, which is a 12th century Romanesque building. This is the largest Cistercian abbey in France and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
