D'Annunzio Eroe, or D'Annunzio the Hero Museum, conceived by D'Annunzio to celebrate his heroism and the endeavours of the Italian people during World War I, but opened after his death, at Vittoriale degli italiani, or The Shrine of Italian Victories, the home, estate and museums of Gabriele D'Annunzio, 1863-1938, Italian writer, soldier and fascist, at Gardone Riviera, Lake Garda, Brescia, Lombardy, Italy. The original museum was opened in 2000 when the Schifamondo area designed by architect Gian Carlo Maroni and furnished by Ettore Canali, was opened to the public. It was expanded in July 2011 with historical memorabilia, flags and autographs from the d’Annunzio Collection belonging to Ambassador Antonio Benedetto Spada. Picture by Manuel Cohen
