Moses, representing the law, from the Transfiguration of Christ, detail, Renaissance fresco, 1437-45, by Fra Angelico, 1387-1455, in the convent of the Basilica di San Marco, in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The fresco depicts Christ with outstretched arms and the apostles Peter, James and John at his feet, flanked by the Virgin Mary and St Dominic, with the heads of Elijah and Moses. The fresco is painted in cell no. 6, a monk's cell, to encourage private devotion. The convent is now the Museo Nazionale di San Marco, and was home to Fra Angelico, who was a Dominican monk and prior and who decorated the chapter house, cloister and first floor cells.
