Reliquary Cross. Probably Winchester, England, Anglo-Saxon, c.900-1000. One of the rare surviving pieces of the sumptuous church furnishings of pre-Conquest England. The enamels are unique in Anglo-Saxon art and may have been made by an English goldsmith familiar with German work. Cedar wood, covered with plates of gold filigree work, set on an Ottonian cross, 18.5 x 13.7 x 2.6 cm. Inv. 7943-1862.
