Rooftops and Castelvecchio, 1354-79, Verona, Italy, seen from Castel San Pietro, known by the Romans as Mons Gallus. The castle, built with its bridge, for Cangrande II, stands on the probable site of a Roman fortress. The castle, where Napoleon stayed, was damaged during the Pasque Veronesi, Napoleonic Wars (1796-97). Castelvecchio was restored in 1923 and 1963-65.
