God separating the sea from the land, bas-relief sculpture, mid 13th century, on the base of the portal of the Upper chapel of La Sainte-Chapelle, Paris, France. One of a series of reliefs illustrating scenes from the Old Testament book of Genesis. Each panel has a decorated curly frame with mythical beasts in the corner. Sainte Chapelle was built 1239-48 to house King Louis IX's collection of Holy Relics. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
