A general view of the Sacred Spring and Temple of Apollo, on April 16, 2007 in Corinth, Greece. From the north side of the Forum stairs led down from the Triglyph Wall, built in the 4th century BC, to the Sacred Spring. Originally in the open it became an underground chamber when the ground around was raised; it was unknown to the Romans. In the background is the Temple of Apollo. Corinth, founded in Neolithic times, was a major Ancient Greek city, until it was razed by the Romans in 146 BC. Rebuilt a century later it was destroyed by an earthquake in Byzantine times.
