A general view of the Sully wing of the Louvre Museum on August 25, 2007 in Paris, France. Originally a 12th century fortress the Louvre Palace rebuilt and expanded many times, was opened to the public as a museum during the French Revolution. To the left is the corner of the pyramid, designed by the American architect I M Pei, and opened in 1989, plus one of the three smaller pyramids. The old palace is reflected in one of the seven granite pools, lit by the afternoon light.
