Dominating the photograph is the Alcazar seen in the evening light. Built as a Roman Palace in the 3rd century AD. it was restored by Alfonso VI (1040-1109) and Alfonso X (1221-84) and renovated in 1535. Toledo is a former capital of Spain, and cultural centre where Jews, Muslims and Christians co-existed. El Greco (1541-1614) painted several views of the city.
