An oblique view of the Statue of Diana and temple of Apollo, on July 7, 2007, in Pompeii, Italy. The Bronze statue of Apollo as an archer was found in fragments and the original is in the National Archaeological Museum, Naples. The temple is located to the West of the Forum and was built in the 2nd century BC. It is surrounded by a peristyle of 9 grey Nuceria Tuff columns to the North and South and other 17 to the East and West. Pompeii was seriously damaged by an earthquake in 62AD and engulfed by Volcanic ash after a major eruption of Mount Vesuvius in August 79AD. This temple was excavated in 1816-17.
