Painted wooden lion's head from Nubia, Early Coptic Period, 3rd CE. The lion's head is carved in much higher relief than the leaves below. The basic colour is reddish brown, with details in yellow and black. The lower edge of the piece is heavily burnt, suggesting that the rest of the object, perhaps the entire building, was destroyed by fire. From Qasr Ibrim, Nubia. EA, 71882.
