Textile, showing Artemis and Aktaion, from Akhmin, Egypt. Coptic Period, 4th CE. The use of large-scale figures suggests that this was a wall-hanging rather than something to be worn. The pointed hat of the man is of Asiatic origin and denotes heroic or divine stature. Artemis has a bow and quiver. The pose of the figures and the stress of the whites of the eyes are distinctly Coptic. The borders are floral patterns surrounding dancers. EA, 43049.
