Open work sword pommel, Anglo-Saxon, late 8th. Both sides of this elaborate sword pommel are decorated with unique openwork ornament which consists of interlace, foliage and knot patterns accompanied by animals. Careful cleaning revealed this unique pice of military metalwork, a high-status object made from gilded silver. Found in Oxfordshire in 1993. M AND ME, 1994,4-7,1.
