Gilt bronze mandala, from China, Quing dynasty, 17th-18th century. Example of the Sino-Tibetan style; mad in China during the Quing dynasty (1644-1911) but represente elements of Tibetan Lamaist Buddhism. It is cast as a pomegranate; at the centre of the mandala is a deity, Yi-dan, of Buddha rank, locked in embrace with his wisdom-partner. The petals are incised with a variety of emblems, horse, elephant, wheel censer, ewer, staff, parasol, ribbon, canopies and jewels. OA 1939.1-18.1
