Study for the portrait of a Lady with a rose, around 1764.
The drawing may be a study of drapery and pose for a portrait, possibly thatof Mary, Countess Howe. The elongated height and her long limbs may be the result of Gainsborough drawing from a costumed doll rather than a living model. PD 1855-7-14-70
