The actors Otani Hiroji and Ichikawa Danzo in a Kabuki "armour-tugging" (Kusazuri-biki) scene, Edo period, around 1717. The play "the Battle of Coxinga" was performed at the Ichimura Theatre and a large signboard showing Hiroshi bursting out through the side of the boat to grasp Danzo's armour may have been the inspiration for this print.
