Carved water tortoise from Allahabad, India, 17th century.
The turtle is a "Kachuga dongaka, a species native to the river Jumna, which meets the Ganges at Allahabad. It was found at the bottom of a water cistern, and might have been made as a rare ornament for the garden pool at the princes's palace. OA 1830.6-12.1
