The gatehouse, Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, 1997. The timber-framed gatehouse was added in 1620. Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who died in 1294.
