The capture of 's-Hertogenbosch by Frederik Hendrik of Orange, Netherlands, 1629, (c1870). During the Eighty Years War the town of 's-Hertogenbosch sided with the Catholic Spanish against the Protestant United Provinces that sought independence from the Netherlands. The town repelled several sieges until Frederik Hendrik of Orange had the surrounding marshes drained with the aid of windmills to pump out the water.
