The Sukharev Tower, Moscow, Russia, 1902. The Moscow Baroque Sukharev Tower was built in 1692-1695 to commemorate Peter the Great's victory over the rebellion led by his sister, Sophia. It was named after LP Sukharev, the commander of a regiment of Streltsy (guardsmen armed with firearms) which fought on Peter's side. The tower was demolished in 1934 during the Stalinist rebuilding of Moscow. From a private collection.
