The Metropolitan Life Tower, New York City, New York, USA, 1933. Vintage linen postcard showing the Metropolitan Life Building at Madison Avenue and 23rd Street. The park in the foreground is Madison Square Park. The building was built as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in 1909. It was designed by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons and was modelled on the Campanile of St Mark's Basilica in Venice. The tower was the tallest building in the world until 1913 when it was surpassed by the Woolworth Building. It served as the company's headquarters until 2005.
