Christ wearing the crown of thorns, polychrome wood statue, Chiesa di San Salvatore in Onda, restored 19th century, Rome, Italy. The Church's name derives from the waters of the nearby River Tiber. Although the crypt dates to the 8th century and lower basements are Roman, the main church was rebuilt and restored many times until the 19th century. It is the headquarters of the Pallottine movement founded by St Vicenzo Pallotti (1795-1850), who is buried beneath the altar. Photograph by Manuel Cohen.
