Recruitment poster for the Vichy French L?gion Tricolore, 1942. During the Second World War the collaborationist Vichy regime in France proposed the formation of a volunteer military force that would fight alongside the Germans against the Allies in Tunisia. The plan, which would have involved troops in French uniforms, was rejected by the Germans, who regarded France as a conquered territory rather than an ally.
