Rear Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson, 1798-1799.Artist: Lemuel Francis Abbott
Rear Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson, 1798-1799. Probably the most famous portrait of Nelson, painted after his victory at the Battle of the Nile, from an earlier sketch. One of Britain's greatest military figures, Admiral Nelson (1758-1805) was the victor at a number of naval battles in the Napoleonic Wars, including the Battle of the Nile (1798), Copenhagen (1801) and most famously, Trafalgar (1805) where he was fatally wounded.
