Osip Mandelstam, Russian poet, late 1920s. Mandelstam (1891-1938) was one of the foremost members of the Acmeist movement which emerged in Russian poetry in 1910. In the 1930s he fell foul of the Stalinist authorities and died in 1938 in a transit camp in Vladivostok on his way to a five year sentence in Siberia. Found in the collection of the State Museum of AS Pushkin, Moscow.
