Mrs May looking in the window of the Woman's Press shop, London, 1910. The shop window contains a display of merchandise; scarves, blouses, and other accessories including the The Emmeline and The Christabel bags, named after two of the leading lights of the suffrage movement. There were also books and leaflets, tobacco pouches, stationery, games and playing cards, all in the suffragette colours of purple, white and green. The premises at No 156 Charing Cross Road were newly opened in May 1910. The rapid growth in the sales of suffragette literature and merchandise necessitated the new business in this central London location. © London Museum/Heritage Images
