Major-General David Stewart of Garth, Scottish author, (1870). Stewart (1772-1829) was the author of Sketches of the Character, Manners, and Present State of the Highlanders of Scotland, with details of the Military services of the Highland Regiments which enjoyed considerable popularity after it was published in 1822 and profoundly influenced the public perception of the Scottish Highlands and their inhabitants.
