Louis IX of France disembarking at Carthage during the Eighth crusade, 1270 (1518). Louis IX commanded both the Seventh and Eighth Crusades. On the latter expedition, disease struck the French camp soon after their arrival in North Africa, and Louis and his son Jean Tristran died.
