Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna of Russia, 1910s. A German princess of the House of Hesse, Elizabeth Fyodorovna (1864-1918) was an older sister of Tsarina Alexandra. Noted for her work among the poor, she became a nun after her husband, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia (1857-1905) was assassinated by a terrorist bomb. She was arrested by the Bolsheviks after the Russian Revolution and was murdered at Alapayevsk in July 1918. She was canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992. Found in the collection of the State Museum of History, Moscow.
