Blue and white dish, Ming dynasty, China, 1467-1485. A small blue and white dish of circular shape. The shallow sides are flared at a sharp angle. The dish is decorated on the exterior with a frieze of detached stylised lotus sprays divided from a frieze of cloud scrolls beneath the rim by a zig-zag line. The flat centre has a medallion of interlaced ruyi heads and lotus buds enclosing a circle within a double line border. The underglaze blue is of soft tone beneath a waxy glaze, burnt orange present in a thin line where the glaze meets the body.
