Assassination of Albrecht von Wallenstein, Austrian soldier, 1634 (19th century). Wallenstein (1583-1634) commanded the Catholic imperial armies during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) until pressure from German princes persuaded the Habsburg emperor Ferdinand II to replace him with Count Tilly in 1630. He was assassinated by Irish and Scottish members of his retiue after mounting a rebellion against the emperor in 1634.
