'The Ghost of Napoleon on St Helena', c1825. Allegorical print of Napoleon's tomb on St Helena, with the figure of Napoleon watching as a laurel wreath is laid on the stone. Napoleon Bonaparte (Napoleon I) (1769-1821), Emperor of France 1804-1815. After his defeat at Waterloo in 1815 and his subsequent surrender to the British, he was exiled to the island of St Helena where he died and was buried. His body was later disinterred and taken to France for reburial.
