'St Sebastian' 17th century. (c290). St Sebastian was an early Christian martyr, condemned to death by shooting with arrows by the Emperor Diocletian (284-313) in c290. The archers failed to kill him however, and he was nursed back to health by a Christian widow. When Diocletian discovered Sebastian was still alive he ordered him beaten to death.
