'A_d_n Cur_it_is. a Trifle from Ramsgate', (Alderman Curtis), c1821. Artist: Anon
'A_d_n Cur_it_is. a Trifle from Ramsgate', (Alderman Curtis), c1821. Showing a profile view of Sir William Curtis, later Lord Mayor of London. He is wearing striped trousers, and a yellow waistcoat which covers a very large stomach. His red nose suggests over-imbibing. In 1821 George IV stayed at his house in Ramsgate. The title could be a play on words, the cur - (dog) - being a derogatory description of Curtis. © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images
