Emperor Theodosius in the Kathisma (royal box of the circus) holding a laurel wreath to crown the winner of a race. He is flanked by his two sons Honorius and Arcadius, future emperors of the divided Roman Empire. Below them are the spectators of the circus and musicians with awater organ (hydraulis). Marble bas-relief. Base of the Obelisk of Theodosius or Egyptian Obelisk (Dikilitas in Turkish). Late imperial Roman 390 CE. This carving is believed to have been sculpted by the "Master A" of this monument.
