Avalokiteshvara as Guide of Souls, early 10th century. The figure of the Buddha Amitabha in the head-dress of this figure identifies him as the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. He is leading the soul of a female devotee to the halls of paradise, depicted by the three top bands each with tiny buildings. (OA, 1919.1-1.046).
