Rainbow snake with horns. The Aboriginal artist's tribal name: Mawurndjul, Eastern Kunwinjku language, Maningrida community, Arnhem Land, Northern Territories. A hybrid, mythical creature that originates with the Time of Dreams, it combines the body of a snake with the head of a buffalo. The snake is Ngalyod, the first being for the people of the Kuninjku language, which creates all living creatures. Acquired in 1997. Painting on eucalyptus bark, 176 x 72 cm. 72.1997.6.2.
