Anthropomorphic Ife head. Kingdom of Ife, Nigeria, Dated between 1275 and 1525. The lack of specific stylistic details leads to the assumption that this shows the head of a person of the royal household and not the oni himself. The stripes may interpreted as traces of ritual paint or scarifications, or even the evocation of a veil with pearls. Terracotta, 15.5 x  11.5 x 12.3 cm. 73.1996.1.4. Photo: Hughes Dubois.
