Daikodo (Great Lecture Hall), Horyu-ji, Nara. The present temple from the late Asuka, early Nara period, was completed in 711. It is believed to have some of the oldest wooden buildings in the world. The full name is Horyu Gakumonji (Learning Temple of the Flourishing Law) because the complex serves as a seminary and a monastery. It is also known as Ikaruga-dera.
