Hoo-do (Phoenix Hall) or Amida-do (Amida Hall), Byodo-in Temple, Uji. This hall, built in 1053, is a fine example of Fujiwara Amida halls. The façade is modeled after the Palace of the Buddha in the Pure Land, as it is depicted in a Jodo mandala. It is shared by the Jodo Shu (Pure Land) and Tendai Buddhist sects.
