Fuseli, Henry (1741-1825)
The Erinyes (Furies) with the corpse of Eriphyle: "Beware of the mother's vengeful dogs". Bribed with a necklace by Polynices, Eriphyle prevailed over her husband Amphiaraus to take part in the expedition of the Seven against Thebes, where he met his death. In revenge for this she was slain by her son Alcameon. Gray wash over black chalk, 20 x 24.3 cm. Inv. RF41568.
