Niepce, Joseph-Nicephore (1765-1833)
View from a window of Niepce's house, Saint-Loup- de-Varennes, c 1827. One of the earliest surviving camera photographs by Joseph Nicephore Niepce (1765-1833). 'The surface irregularities of the original plate have been emphasised by the technique required to copy the very faint original.' Niepce was a French chemist and one of the inventors of photography.
