Rider and foot hoplite attacking a naked opponent who kneels on the ground holding his shield. This was the top of a public memorial of fallen warriors. The theme is inspired by the battles of the Athenians in Corinth and Boeotia. A beginning of a list of the fallen Athenian warriors appears below the relief. Pentelic marble relief. Ancient Greek, 394-393 BCE. Found near the Dipylon, Athens.
